Carl & Sophia Froess family emigration

The family arrived in New York aboard the ship Aller on November 3, 1888.  Carl's occupation is listed as "Joiner".  The children's names are Philip, Anna, Jacob, Mary, Katherine, Henry and John.

Bechenheim Men's Singing Club

The Bechenheim Men's Singing Club began in 1851.  A booklet that was published in 1991 included a history of the club.  On page 29 Carl Froess (Karl Fröß) is mentioned as the director.  It translates as "In 1887, Karl Froess, a cabinet maker took over the training of the singers.  But already a year later he emigrated to the United States.  Until that time the singers practiced at his house.  He charged everyone 15 cents for heating costs."
